Hope Project 2012.1

Dear Joy:

After the conversation we had, I was very glad to have someone with whom I can share my anxieties. Bio always told me that the families of the kids in the Project were more difficult to handle than the children. Parents take time to understand that if they don’t strive, their kids will not produce. It’s hard for the parents to keep up their children’s school assignments and homework. Many parents don’t even know how to help their children with daily tasks. For this reason, kids had a low productivity in 2011.

Jonathan left the project, because his mom so decided. The first reason was that they lack money to buy their school materials. Second, she thinks Jonathan is not trying hard enough to keep up his studies and grades. I regretted so much but understood and respected her decision, for she is very responsible and dedicated.

Lucas also left the project. He simply flunked the year. His grandmother was the one who took care of him back until September 2011. His mother began to take care of him again, after that his grades worsened. Unfortunately the mother does not really care about Lucas’ education. I was really very sad for him and his grandmother.

The rest of the children remain in the Project and the ones who have difficulty are going through school tutoring. You were right, many children study alone. We chose a teacher who taught them how to study by themselves and understand what is being asked in their school assignments.

Ariadne started her last year of High School. She is doing very well and auditioning to get into college. This will be her last year in the Project.

Larissa is doing well in school. This year she had a very good academic improvement. Her parents will enroll her at a private tutoring.

Juscelino is also at grade 11th. He is a very shy boy. He still hasn’t decided whether to go to a regular college or technical school. The father wants to enroll him at a prep school.

Gisele is in 10th grade. She had a tough year in 2011, because of her adolescence mood and lack of discipline at school. I was pretty worried about her. After several conversations with her, it seems she decided to change her attitude and be more committed to their studies.  She will attend tutoring as well.

Victoria is in 5th grade and is doing very well. She is very shy but a smart girl. She loves studying and has a great support of her father who teaches her homework.

Vitor is in 7th grade. He had difficulties in Elementary. His parents are well aware of it. He will attend tutoring. He loves soccer and other sports.

Edson Bruno is in 7th grade. He had a great school year. He did well his first middle school year. He has an older sister who helps him with his homework. He’s growing very fast.

Ana Livia continues very well with her academic achievements. This year she is in 8th grade. She likes to study and learns with ease. Ana Livia’s mother did not finish High School, thus she makes sure her daughter gets a good education.

Felipe is a very good kid. He is very talented; his parents do the best for Felipe’s education. He is taking English classes and is doing swimming as well.
The new kidsChristian: He's an excellent boy. Love soccer and is a typical Brazilian who would play soccer in streets all day long. He's the only child and his family is very united. His father works setting marble stones and he is one of the song leaders in our church on Sundays. His mother is very dedicated to the church and an excellent Sunday school teacher.

Rickson: Is a very smart boy and loves to laugh. He's also a great student. He has a younger brother, who he always has around with. His parents are active in the church and are easy people.

Milena: Is an easy girl and enjoys staying at home. She likes to use internet and take pictures of herself. Her family is united and they are active in the church. Milena likes to study and help her mom with home chores.

Kelly: Is an A+ student. She always enjoyed to study on her own. However, her father left home when she was little, leaving her only with her mom and older brother. They financial status is very hard, but their relatives help her when noticed how studious she was and still is. She loves to participate in Bible Bowls and always score very high.

Ariane is also a straight A student. She is small and shy, and has a sister already in the Project, Ariadne. Her mom is an example of courage and determination. Her mom has been a faithful Christian.

Thanks for all your patience and love for this Project.

In Jesus’s name,
Dayse and Bio Nascimento
